Working with Controls in the panel editor

Selecting Controls.

Controls that are "selected" will have a blue dotted outline.  Some operations work on ALL selected controls (such as delete and move operations).    Be careful if you have multiple controls selected.

Context menus

You can display a context menu that offers many actions that are specific to a control (or to the panel itself).  Position the mouse cursor over the item of interest and press the right mouse button.

The Keyboard arrow keys can be used for small adjustments to control position and size (with Shift+Arrow).

Enter on the keyboard will bring up the properties of the selected control.

Creating and modifying controls

Action How to do it
Control properties Double-click the desired control, or:

Right click the desired control and select Properties from the context menu.

You can also press the Enter key (return) to edit the properties of the (first) selected control.

Bind Binding controls glues them together so that all of them are selected and moved if any one of the bound controls is moved or selected.  It’s useful to keep things like the contents of a groupbox together.

Select the items you want to bind, then Right click one of them and select Bind/Lock/Bind selected from the context menu.

Unbind controls the same way.

Labels After you have selected the control, left click it again.  This will open an edit control over the label.  Type the new text and press the Tab key to accept your change, or Escape to cancel. 

Clicking on a different control will also accept your changed label.

Colors Right click the control and select Colors from the context menu

You can, for most controls, modify the text (foreground) color and background colors.  You can also remove colors by setting them to the Window colors.

Copy Right click the control and select Copy from the context menu

You can also use the Edit item on the main menu, which also permits you to copy a set of controls to a file for pasting later.

Create Click the toolbar button for the desired control, or use the menu to select Field/control.
Delete Select the control(s) of interest, then click the button in the toolbar. 

You can also Right click the desired control and select Delete from the context menu.   

You can also press the Delete Key while any control(s) are selected.

NOTE: In all cases, deleted controls are copied to the clipboard before being deleted.  This is a safety feature in case you accidentally delete controls.  In this case you need only to Paste them in again.

Font Right click the control and select Font from the context menu
Lock Locking controls fixes their position on the panel so that you can’t move them accidentally.  You can still modify the properties of a locked control.

Right click the desired control and select Bind/Lock/Lock this item from the context menu

Unlock controls the same way.

Move Position the mouse cursor over the control, press and hold the left mouse button, and drag the control to the new location.

If multiple controls were selected, they will all move as a group.

You can also Nudge the control a small amount using the Nudge arrow at the right side of the toolbar.

You can also press the Arrow keys to move all selected controls.

Paste Use the Edit item on the main menu, which also permits you to paste a set of controls that were copied to a file.
Resize Position the mouse cursor over the side or corner of the control that you wish to move, hold the left button, and drag it to the new size

If multiple controls were selected, they will all be resized.

You can also use the resizing arrows at the right side of the toolbar to adjust the size in small increments.

You can also press Shift+Arrow keys to resize all selected controls.

Select (single) Left click the desired control.

Deselect by selecting a different control.

You can also Tab to the desired control to select it.

Select (multiple) Press Ctrl and click the desired control(s), or:

Position the mouse pointer to the upper left corner of the desired area, press the left button, and drag to draw a rubber-band box around the controls you wish to select.

Deselect a single control:  Press Ctrl and click the control.

Tabbing sequence Select Field/Tabbing Sequence from the main menu.
